Born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1937, George Allan attended the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology before setting off to study the world's master artists and their work. He traveled for twelve years throughout the South Pacific, North and South America, Europe, and Russia. Austria became homebase for ten of those years, while he taught skiing and painted.

George also spent a couple of years in London during this period, spending countless hours in museums and galleries. Says George, "Monet, Toullouse Lautrec are among my favorite artists ... I was in awe of the Impressionists, and studied their paintings first-hand as often as I could."

In 1973, while painting in Denmark, George was invited to help sail the Carthaginian II (refitted as a replica of an 1800's whaling ship) and four months later arrived in Lahaina on the Island of Maui, Hawaii. George planned on only spending a few weeks in Hawaii, however he immediately found himself involved with the Lahaina Art Society. As George puts it, "I thought that I’d stay in Hawaii long enough to get rested, but I kept getting more and more involved. Then I found myself growing as an artist. Where in Europe I was merely absorbing, here I was beginning to express what I had learned during the past 12 years." Part of George's involvement included getting married to his wife, Janet, a year and a half after arriving! .

Mr. Allan's works are in the collections of the Morey Management Group, IBM Corporation, First Hawaiian Bank, Time Oil Company, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the City and County of Honolulu, County of Maui, and in numerous other public, corporate and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Pacific Rim and the Far East.
