Handcrafted From Solid "Curly-Grain" Hawaiian Koa Wood 63.5" L x 38" W x 30.5 H $18,000 Handcrafted from one of the rarest woods on the planet, this elegant yet sturdy desk with its bent-lamination leg design is truly a masterpiece of joinery. Each leg consists of two separate 30-piece bent laminations that are mitered and joined in opposing directions. Legs meet apron in compound angles with Mortise and Tendon for both beauty and strength. The top is made of a solid slab of Hawaiian "curly-grain" Koa wood, a rare exotic wood from Maui that was air-dried for seven years. The finish is handrubbed with wet sanding using super-fine grits and Danish oil. This is what "Heirloom Quality" is all about. |

Robert speaks of his work: "When I design a piece, I think of it as a sculpture in the format of furniture. Often it is in nature that I find the most inspiration. Even a single blade of grass represents a perfect example of a subtle curve and gentle taper". "My primary goal is to delight the viewer (and collector) with furniture that is fresh, alive and playful. I want to design and build furniture that irresistably pulls people in for a closer look and instills in them the desire to touch. The works of wood-art that I create are considered to be of heirloom quality to be cherished and treasured for years to come." |
